About Briefcases
Briefcases are mainly used to carry documents, books, laptops or other media that is flat or small in a portable and safe way. Why "briefcase" - "briefcases" get there name from the historical use of lawyers and solicitors using them to carry "briefs" to court hence the name "briefcase". However nowadays the briefcase is of upmost important to many business people all over the world making the briefcase and iconic emblem in the business world and influencing the stereotypical view of a suited person with briefcase.
The briefcase can be considered a descendant of the limp satchel - a softer material bag used to carry money and valuables in the 14th century. This smaller bag was called a "budget" which comes from the Latin "bulga" meaning leather bag. Godillot of Paris was the first to implement a metal frame within the carpet bag in the 1820s and many other makers followed incorporating frames of iron or wood into their bags to give a rigid and sturdy shape turning them into cases. With this stronger design documents and items of importance are protected inside ensuring nothing gets creased or damaged.
With this new design taking hold briefcases began to emerge in many styles however neutral colours are usually used to avoid clashing with the users attire which is generally smart dress / suit. The most commonly produced briefcases are leather and are available in range of different leathers such as black, brown or vintage style. Another common style is briefcases made in metal for example an aluminium briefcase, these aluminium briefcases are designed with strength and security in mind and usually allow the user to lock them storing items of confidentially or expense inside the briefcase.
